My Teammates Are All Crazy – Ch. 4

Jing Yu thought asdf was joking, but after leaving that message in the chatbox, asdf seriously recalled back to the fountain and didn’t move again.

“He’s AFK?!” Jing Yu couldn’t believe it.

Four-queue meant that this group of four teamed up and entered the match up together.  Even if they weren’t in the same location, they were at least using voice chat.

He’s AFK, yet his teammates aren’t cursing him out?

Still bewildered, Jing Yu saw his teammates casually say:

【Teamhhhh (Voïa):  Since our solo laner went to sleep, I’ll switch to AD build and jungle.  Jungler, you go up top.
【TeamGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  ……Are you kidding me?

It’s fine if you don’t want to curse out your teammate, but why are you calmly changing battle tactics?
It’s fine if you want to change battle tactics, but what are you trying to do with these deliberately unreasonable tactics?
The support didn’t equip Smite, even if he switched to an AD build, jungling?!
Not to mention, Voïa was a pure healer-support.  Even if they’re talking about changing builds, shouldn’t it be to a mage build?

For a second, Jing Yu was at a complete loss – just as he thought they could win this round, he was met with such a sudden change.  It really wasn’t a pleasant feeling.
But what else could he do?
Although the circumstances weren’t optimistic, but since he was using Frozen Heart, he never considered losing!

After Jing Yu moved Frozen Heart to the top lane and cleared the creeps, he hid in the brush and looked at the players’ equipment.  What he didn’t expect was that in this short amount of time, their support had already switched to an AD build, even selling the support item that prioritized the other teammates’ gold.
And the Voïa on the minimap was really floating towards the bottom jungle.

Fuck…… He was seriously going to take his jungle?

Jing Yu quickly typed as fast as he could in the message box and hit send.

【TeamGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  ADC jungle, SUPP defend bot.  Don’t switch to full AD build, get equipment to boost HP recovery.

Their solo laner was AFK, and even if Jing Yu pushed top, he wouldn’t be able to tank.  After all, he was using Frozen Heart, a demon whose squishiness was unsalvageable even with ten pieces of defensive equipment.  Therefore, the important task of tanking could only be left to the support.

【TeamGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Finish fast!

After sending those two words, Jing Yu moved Frozen Heart towards the bottom lane, planning to take the Demonic Disk.

The him that was so serious had no idea that, at that very moment, in a not-so-spacious training room, four people sat in front of a row of computers, chatting without a care in the world.

“Yo, this one’s pretty good under pressure~” a teen boy with dyed-blond hair smirked, tapping on his keyboard. “Even now, he’s still thinking of winning!”

“Looking at the battle situation, we really can win!”  A young man two heads taller than him cut in self-righteously, “When dealing with normal players, just the four of us are enough!”

“Hey, hey, hey, who were the ones that lost the last four-versus-five match?” said a person who looked reliable and mature, but in a tone just as lighthearted as the other two.

          “You were,” the blond said.
“You were,” the tall one said.

The maturing-looking man didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  “The two of you are really!  So, I controlled four characters by myself, huh?”
The blond replied, “Two hands and two feet, that makes four exactly.”
The tall one added, “Impressive, Leafy[1].  You’re a team all by yourself.”

The man called Leafy really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry now.  But before he could say anything witty back, he was interrupted by a person standing to the very side, in a tone that left no room for argument: “So noisy, all of you shut it.”

The person at the very side, sitting with his legs lazily crossed as if he owned the place, watched the computer screen in front of him through half-lidded eyes.
On the screen was 《Demon Lord》’s battlefield, but the demon he was in control of was currently standing motionlessly in their fountain.

The darkened map reflected a young, handsome face that showed a hint of drowsiness.
Even with only a brief look, his level of attractiveness easily beat everyone else in the training room.  At the moment, he was calmly dragging his mouse across the minimap while holding down the left button.
The scenery on-screen changed along with his mouse movements, until it captured one snow-white shadow – Frozen Heart!

While the blond used his marksman to jungle, he snuck a glance at the person standing to the side, and after turning back to the screen, he said nonchalantly, “Fei-ge[2], what do you think?  There aren’t a lot of people who can keep up with our pace.”

“Shut up, keep playing.”  Like before, the tone of voice didn’t allow for disagreement.
The one who was referred to as Fei-ge spoke overbearingly, his eyes following Frozen Heart’s movements the entire time, as if carefully observing something.

At this moment in time, Frozen Heart was strolling around the enemy jungle, but he wasn’t in a hurry to jungle.
After wandering for a while, he suddenly used Smite on a jungle monster, then circled around towards the Demonic Disk, completely ignoring the jungle monster trailing behind him.

Reaching the Demonic Disk, he began to fight without any hesitation, without sending any pings to his teammates.

This seemingly nonsensical move made Qin Fei unable to hold back a short burst of laughter.
–That’s right, the person who was observing Frozen Heart was PG’s jungler, Qin Fei.  The one who was known as 《Demon Lord》’s most aggressive professional player, without any competition.
He wasn’t just the most aggressive jungler, but the most aggressive professional player; it was clear how brutal his personal style was.

Frozen Heart’s actions a while back, in his opinion, was the best reflection of jungle awareness – even without vision of the enemy jungler, this Frozen Heart was able to detect the enemy’s approach and use jungle monsters to mislead him.

The enemy jungler rushed over, and seeing the jungle monster giving chase, he naturally thought that Frozen Heart retreated in the direction the monster was moving in.  Who could have thought that he had sneakily circled around?
The jungle monster only followed a set amount of distance before returning to its original position.  The enemy jungler didn’t think too much, chasing in the direction the jungle monster originally set out in.  At the moment, he was carefully checking the nearby bushes, not knowing how much time he would waste in the brush.
And this amount of time was enough for Frozen Heart to capture the Demonic Disk.

【Team】 Gold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  The enemy has vision on you all, don’t move.

【Team】 Gold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Support, ult!

Seeing these words, the tall one didn’t waver, immediately using Voïa’s ult to heal all of his teammates.
Over on Qin Fei’s screen, Frozen Heart’s health instantly increased, and at the same time, the CD for Smite had ended.  Frozen Heart immediately used the skill, and then followed with an auto.

【System】Frozen Heart has conquered the Demonic Disk!
【System】Frozen Heart has activated the Demonic Disk!

An enormous round disk that gave off a black aura, under Frozen Heart’s command, was flung towards the mid lane with a “swoosh—“.

Frozen Heart sent a ping to push towers, yet he himself didn’t move towards the mid lane, but rather floated downwards to push bot.

Very quickly, the mid lane’s second tower was taken down by the mage and marksman, and the bottom second tower was about to be taken down by the creeps lead by Frozen Heart.

Under such circumstances in which they were missing their solo laner, whether it was the number of kills or the number of turrets taken down, their side was completely in the lead.

“Next will be a team fight,” Qin Fei smiled, clearly in a good mood.

“So, how’s this guy?” the blond couldn’t resist asking, “Qin-ge, how-is-he-how-is-he-how-is-he?  Come on, say something~”

Qin Fei didn’t hide his thoughts, replying straightforwardly, “I wasn’t able to tell how well he can solo lane, but as a jungler, his awareness and controls are pretty good, and I didn’t see him make any mistakes.  He’s able to keep up with our pace, and the last two co-ops were very nicely done, virtually without any problems.  If I had to say, the one thing I’m not satisfied with…… He seems to like pushing towers more than team fighting.”

“Well, it is a tower game.”  This was said by mid laner, Leafy.

“But if we’re talking about our usual gameplay~” the blond laughed devilishly, “First, we ace the other team, then we leisurely destroy their turrets under their despairing gazes, now that’s what I call a high!”

“As long as we can kill them, don’t let them escape!” the tall, broad support roared, “I’m still missing one equipment.  Wait until I complete my build, I’m going to kill you all!”
The blond laughed, “Hahaha! My build’s already complete!  I’m gonna kill you all right now!”
Leafy joined in, “The Dark Dragon refreshed!  Come on, come on, come on!  Team fight!  Team fight!  Gonna kill you all!”
Qin Fei: “……All of you, shut the hell up!”

This noisy group gave Qin Fei a headache, yet his gaze was fixed on the Frozen Heart onscreen the entire time, as if afraid of missing even the slightest detail.

At this moment, the blond’s marksman was clearing the creeps in the top lane, but halfway through, he bolted towards the mid lane.  Where was Frozen Heart?  Earlier, he had been diligently farming jungle monsters, then as if suddenly realizing something, he decisively gave up fighting a monster with only half its health left and floated to the brush near mid lane and waited.

Seeing his actions, the four in the PG training room were all startled.

“Eh?  He knows we’re about to team fight?” As always, the blond was the first to speak.
Leafy immediately followed with, “Eh?  He thinks we can win a team fight?”
Towards this point, the tall one said confidently, “Of course we can win!  You guys have me!”
Talking as if he were the ADC……

Qin Fei didn’t say anything, but keenly watched Frozen Heart’s every movement.

Not long after, the ally creeps appeared, and their support unhesitatingly rushed under the tower to attack the mage hiding behind the tower.
The enemy mage threw out a control ability and quickly followed with an ult.  Practically at the same time, the ally support gave up his shield, using it to tank the damage from the turret and ult, and then used his 1st, a weak healing ability, to raise his health.

By this time, the marksman had already followed the support under the tower, pushing the tower at the speed of light.
Almost instantly, Frozen Heart decisively used his 2nd ability, linking onto the mage and moving under the tower.  However, he completely ignored the mage, instead helping the marksman destroy the tower with auto attacks before resolutely using his ult.

Frozen Heart’s ultimate did not have a large area of effect, but his positioning was excellent, astonishingly controlling all five of the enemy demons in one move.
With an opportunity as good as this, the ally marksman naturally wouldn’t let it go to waste, and he attacked madly!  The support with very little blood remaining also attacked madly!  The mage, even more so, randomly threw out all of his abilities, attacking madly!

Frozen Heart, needless to say, with being a squishy as the trade-off, had the highest attack on the scene!

Within a few short moments of the four players pounding on their keyboards and scrambling to attack, they aced the other team!

Jing Yu stared at the pile of corpses on the ground, listened to the series of system prompts, stared at his Frozen Heart who was almost at full health, his eyes widening disbelievingly.

What he wasn’t aware was that somewhere not far from him, a person who was AFKing and pretending to be asleep also revealed a disbelieving expression.

“This timing, this positioning……” Qin Fei’s voice shook slightly, unable to hide the excitement in his heart, “This jungler, I’ll take him!”

“It’s ‘we’ll’ take him,” the blond corrected earnestly.
“No, I’ll take him.” Leafy’s deadpanned, “As someone who controls four characters with his two hands and two feet, the only one I’m missing is a jungler!”
“Get lost!” the tall one shouted, then said contemplatively, “But, would he accept our invitation?”

Qin Fei gave a brief smile, “Hound him, harass him every few minutes, I doubt that we can’t win him over.”
          “So underhanded……” Leafy submitted.

“Such an enormous task, I’ll leave it to you, Leafy.”  Qin Fei patted Leafy’s back gravely, “Good luck, I believe in you.”
          Leafy:  “……Fuck.”

Note (2020-04-12): I’m really sorry about not updating in so long, some things happened back at home, and my health hasn’t been great either.  Thankfully, tamagoyaki picked up the translation for this wonderful series, and her releases are so much faster and of much better quality than mine could ever be.
I may do translations of other series in the future, although this time, I’ll make sure I can stick with it before starting.  Again, I’m so sorry about abandoning this project halfway (or more like 1/50th of the way…) through. Thank you to everyone who’s read or commented, and to tamagoyaki for continuing the translations, I’m really grateful that someone picked this up.

My Teammates Are All Crazy – Ch. 3

Evidently, this was a four-person taxi[1].  And looking at the IDs that were made by randomly smashing the keyboard, their intent to mess around was clear.

Jing Yu lost his confidence.  Losing a standard match wasn’t a big deal, but it was a problem if the win-rate for his main went down!

“How about I use the wind elemental instead?”  Jing Yu asked hesitantly.

The newbie gift pack was a set of five elementals, and a family should stick together.

However, the bullet comments thought differently:

【Gold Fish, don’t be scared!  Use Frozen Heart and carry them!】

【Gold Fish, go for it!  It’s time for you to show off your Frozen Heart’s skills!】

【Finally, a round without anyone flaming Frozen Heart.  Grasp this opportunity, Gold Fish!】

“You guys just want to see me lose with Frozen Heart, right?!  That’s how it is!”  Jing Yu felt like he’s uncovered the truth.

He’s noticed that every time he uses Frozen Heart to face-slap flamers, his angels get very happy.

And every time he uses Frozen Heart to face-slap himself, his angels aren’t disheartened, but rather become even happier, and would start cheerfully spamming “devastating defeat” in bold letters.

In the end, they just want to see him play as Frozen Heart.

As a live streamer who took care of his audience, he naturally followed what the majority of his fans wanted.

All the way until the start of battle, Jing Yu didn’t change from Frozen Heart, even though he was panicking internally, so much that he wasn’t in the mood to run his mouth.

【Aiyaya, it feels strange not hearing Gold Fish’s playful tone.】

【Don’t be scared, Gold Fish!  I think you’re going to get a losing MVP!】

“Who the fuck is scared!” Jing Yu stubbornly persisted, “I’m at Master rank.  Even if it’s just a standard match, both my teammates and enemies will be around the same rank.  Even if they use the newbie pack demons, they can’t be terrible, right?”

At least he hoped so……

It was hard to say whether these four were just here to troll.

After entering battle, Jing Yu stopped paying attention to the comments, taking control of Frozen Heart and floating towards the jungle.  He decided to peacefully farm some monsters to raise his level and gold.

However, just as he killed the first monster……

System】 Sonde has slain an enemy!

System】 The enemy Triton has been defeated!

System】 Chiron has slain an ally!

System】 Your ally Sonde has been defeated!

System】 Voïa has slain an enemy!

System】 The enemy Chiron has been defeated!

The game had only begun for less than a minute, but the bottom lane already finished a 1-for-2 trade.

Jing Yu was dumbstruck.

AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  So intense?

Just as he finished typing, system prompts once again covered his screen.

System】 Faar has slain an enemy!

System】 The enemy Scarlet Fury has been defeated!

System】 Guren has slain an enemy!

System】 The enemy Rampant Corpse has been defeated!

System】 Rampant Corpse has slain an ally!

System】 Your ally Guren has been defeated!

“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!” Jing Yu was completely thrown off by the fast pace of the battle.  “What’s with these people?”

It was only a minute since the start of the game, yet the score had already risen to 4:2.  Other than the jungler, every single demon on the enemy side had died once, with the allied solo laner and marksman as sacrifice.

As for the reason, Jing Yu can guess from what he observed of the minimap – the solo laner tower-dived to slaughter the enemy, but in the end was killed by the tower, and the kill was given to the enemy.

The marksman in the bottom lane was the same, diving right under the tower to auto attack and kill the other side.

Shit, they’re fierce AF.

However, this play-style reminded him of a professional gaming team called PG.  Every one of its members was extremely aggressive, and even the support had gotten a triple kill before.

And of PG, the most aggressive would be their jungler, Qin Fei.  It didn’t matter what demon he chose; he would still play as if he could solo an entire team.

Qin Fei was the 《Demon Lord》 professional gamer Jing Yu admired the most up until now, without any competition.

Every time Jing Yu watched a match with Qin Fei playing, his blood would boil with excitement.

It can’t be that……

No, no, it wasn’t possible.  How could there be such a big coincidence in life?

Even more so, everyone knows that PG was forever lacking a solo laner, and their solo lane position was always changing.  Even their jungler Qin Fei had to fill that spot in the past.

During the last season of 《Demon Lord》’s professional league, it was because PG couldn’t find a suitable fifth player that they could only reach Top 8.

Jing Yu sighed internally.  Even though he’s biased towards PG, especially towards Qin Fei, he still thought that if PG continues their fast-paced and aggressive play-style, it would be difficult for them to find a fifth member.

Because, there were very few people who could keep up with their tempo.

*

Deaths at the start of the battle are resurrected very quickly.  Just as Jing Yu finished off his third jungle monster, the players from both sides had hurried back to their outer towers.

Jing Yu had a bad feeling.  Although he still hadn’t reached Lv. 6 nor unlocked his ult, he moved Frozen Heart straight towards the bottom lane.

Just as expected, as soon the allied marksman reached the tower, he immediately Flashed past the enemy support, directly auto-ing the enemy marksman.

Not only that, the allied support also used Flash and his shield, and began madly attacking the enemy marksman.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!”  While chanting “fuck”, Jing Yu instantly locked onto the enemy marksman and blinked under the tower, used his 1st ability to secure the kill, and then Flashed out of the tower, fiercely pounding keyboard commands at the support.

Jing Yu had dived into the tower before the marksman, taking a hit from the turret, barely managing to save the marksman who only had a layer of blood left.  At the same time, he secured two kills.

Then he immediately sent out a signal to retreat.

The allied marksman and support, after hearing the system prompts, clearly paused for a second, before following Frozen Heart back under their own turret.

A very beautiful 0-for-2 trade, plus, they safely retreated before the enemy jungler could arrive.

Allyadddd (Sonde):  Yo, impressive.

AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Almost didn’t make it……

AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  You guys are so aggressive!

While typing, Frozen Heart floated towards the mid lane.

Although he couldn’t see the other jungler, due to the previous battle, the jungler must have tried to rush towards bottom lane.  And because he didn’t make it in time, he likely started farming the bottom jungle or went to gank mid.

Jing Yu had planned to float to mid and camp in the brush to watch the situation.  But he didn’t expect that their mage, with only a sliver of health, would be pressing the enemy mage into the enemy tower.

“Fuck!  Are you trying to die?” Jing Yu couldn’t help roasting.

Under these circumstances, not knowing where the enemy jungler was, Jing Yu didn’t dare rush under the enemy tower.  He was just about to tell their mage not to overextend in chat, but before he could hit send, Burial Sword rushed over with his 40-m longsword!

At the same time, Faar reached Lv. 6 and immediately used his ultimate, locking on to Burial Sword and attacking madly.

Almost as if second nature, Jing Yu used Frozen Heart to link towards Burial Sword, piercing him with their 1st ability, leaving him with only a thin slice of health.  The kill was secured by their mage’s auto attack.

At this point, the ally mage was also only left with a sliver of health, probably less than 20 points.  But not only did he not retreat, he continued to parade around the enemy turret, leaving Jing Yu in a cold sweat.

Seeing how low his health was, the enemy mage didn’t want to let go of this opportunity, Flashing towards him with his ultimate!

But the allied mage, almost as if he predicted it all, advanced rather than retreating, using his 2nd then 1st, and took out the enemy mage with a set of combos.

System】 Faar, double kill!

System】 The enemy Scarlet Fury has been defeated!

In the brushes, the Jing Yu who was planning on avenging their mage was astounded.

In that split second, he thought their mage was dead for sure.  Seeing the enemy mage use their ultimate, anyone’s first reaction should be to retreat, right?  But since the enemy went for broke and used their Flash, at this distance, it was impossible to dodge their ult.  Yet the allied mage attacked without withdrawing, and ended up completely avoiding the ult, finishing up with a counter-kill.

This was truly a counter-kill with a sliver of blood!

Their mage recalled home on the spot, and Jing Yu controlled Frozen Heart to move towards the enemy’s jungle.  The shock in his heart still hadn’t subsided.

At this time, there were still people on the enemy team who haven’t reached Lv. 6, yet the score was already 8:2.

It couldn’t be denied, this four-person taxi was really too aggressive.  If it wasn’t for him personally witnessing their mage’s shady gameplay, he would think the enemies were bots.

Now that he was on this over-speeding taxi, Jing Yu had no choice but to speed up his own tempo.

After clearing the enemy’s top jungle, Frozen Heart floated to camp behind the enemy’s top outer tower.  While allowing their solo laner to have vision of the jungle, he could also look for an opportunity mount a surprise attack on the enemy solo laner.

Perhaps he was scared by their fierce play-style, but the enemy solo laner appeared to rather die than step out from under his tower.

–And then he really died.

In the same instant that the creeps entered the tower, their team’s Guren rushed under the tower and used his 1st ability to prevent Rampant Corpse from using Flash, and 0.1 seconds later, Frozen Heart linked onto Rampant Corpse, moving towards him and ulting him.  The frozen Rampant Corpse couldn’t move a muscle and was almost instantly killed by Guren and Frozen Heart’s various abilities and auto attacks.

And then Frozen Heart was first to leave the tower, Guren tanking the turret damage while leaving, still having half of his health.

The two, with the help of allied creeps, pushed the outer tower together in sync.

Allyasdf (Guren):  Yo, pretty good.

Allyasdf (Guren):  Right, I can relax and sleep now, glhf.

Allyjkll (Faar):  Good night.

Allyadddd (Sonde):  Good night~

Allyhhhh (Voïa):  Good night!

AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  ???

My Teammates Are All Crazy – Ch. 2

Those watching Jing Yu’s stream had all seen him play as Frozen Heart before.  Even so, watching the moment he counter-killed Burial Sword with only a sliver of health, they still excitedly commented all sorts of wails and exclamations, accompanied by “666”[1].

A second ago, Burial Sword’s health had been much higher than Frozen Heart’s, yet a second later, their health bars had swapped.  Frozen Heart’s counter-kill with only drops of blood was too exhilarating!

Not only was the enemy camp shocked, his own team was the same.

【EnemyPetals in the Stream (Burial Sword):  F*ck!
     【AllyXX (Lilith):  ?!
【AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Ey hey~

After getting first blood, Jing Yu’s Frozen Heart successfully leveled up to Lv. 2.  As Flash, a blink skill that was a must-bring for junglers, was still on cooldown, he leisurely farmed the jungle while interacting with the bullet comments.  “I solo’d Burial Sword!  Did anyone win that bet?”

     【Yup, yup!】
     【Mama, this episode is a rerun!】
【History always repeats itself in such a similar manner.】
【A moment of silence for the dumbstruck Burial Sword.】

     【Gold Fish’s Cutiepie threw a shallow-water bomb!】
Hearing the system prompt, Jing Yu quickly said, “Wah, thank you for the shallow-water bomb, boss!”
Saying so, he took the time to glance at the bullet comments.

     【The enemy’s a total noob, he couldn’t even win against Frozen Heart.】
Jing Yu laughed lightheartedly, “Don’t say it like that, the enemy wasn’t noob at all, it’s because I’m just too strong~” He began to swell up[2].

Still, however much his words were filled with hot air, his controls were always careful and on point.

Once he reached Lv. 6 and unlocked his ultimate, Jing Yu immediately opened up battle stats to check the exp and gold difference between the teams, quickly finding a target for his first gank – the enemy ADC.

Truthfully, Jing Yu was better at ganking the mid laner mage, and those who frequent his streams were more than used to seeing him form a tag team with the ally mage.

But he calculated their exp and gold difference, and this time, as soon as the ally mage didn’t move according to his plans, it would likely become a path of no return – the enemy mage could take his life with only their 1st ability.

Plus, watching the battle situation on the minimap, he thought that it was about time to gank the bottom lane.

And so very quickly, under the expectant gazes of those watching the live stream, Frozen Heart, emitting an aura of coldness, floated towards the back of the enemy’s bottom tower, while checking brushes along the way.

For Frozen Heart, this was a very dangerous positioning to be in.  Frozen Heart’s 2nd ability, Snow Allure, wasn’t a direction-targeted mobility skill like what most junglers had.  It could only link onto an enemy demon and then drag Frozen Heart towards them.

This ability would honestly be very useful, especially when it came to securing kills.  It could move towards an enemy with perfect precision, while dealing a large amount of damage.  The problem was, the one bestowed with this skill was 《Demon Lord》’s number one most squishy, Frozen Heart.

And so, what could have been a good kill-securing ability became a suicide ability in the hands of most players. They’ll use it, and then they’ll die, they’ll use it, and then they’ll die — one of the reasons why those who used Frozen Heart to rank will be flamed.

But Jing Yu wasn’t just anyone.
He started using Frozen heart from the very first month he began playing 《Demon Lord》, and by now his mastery on Frozen Heart was already maxed out, with a win rate of over 75%.

His closest win was when their team’s top, mid, and bottom lanes had all collapsed, yet he had managed to hold the tempo by himself, winning the game 38:61.  His end score was 21 kills, 15 assists, which is to say, there were only two kills that he didn’t have a hand in.

So, when other people see him choose Frozen Heart, they would all think that it was a sure loss, but from the moment Jing Yu picked Frozen Heart, the only thing on his mind was victory!

Jing Yu waited patiently in the brush.  The second that their team’s marksman forced the enemy marksman under the tower, he instantly used Frozen Heart’s linking ability to move under the tower, dealing out his ultimate, before immediately Flashing behind the ally marksman.

The enemy marksman’s health had been above two-thirds, but after taking damage from Frozen Heart’s linking ability and ultimate, he only had a sliver of health left.  The allied marksman hit him with an auto, successfully securing the kill!

The opponent support belatedly activated his shield, after everything was already over.  He obviously hadn’t been expecting Frozen Heart to appear from behind their own tower – this Frozen Heart was really too bold!

Indeed, given how squishy Frozen Heart was, it was impossible for them to tower tank.  Just by taking a single hit from the turret, only a slice of blood was left.
If it wasn’t so, Jing Yu wouldn’t have used his Flash without hesitation, giving up the opportunity to take the kill with his 1st ability.

But, it wasn’t a problem.  Victory belonged to the whole team!

【System】 True Arrow has slain an enemy!
【System】 The enemy Chiron has been defeated!

     【EnemyYIYI (Chiron):  ……
【EnemyYIYI (Chiron):  Our jungler was too slow.
【EnemyPetals in the Stream (Burial Sword):  I’m not taking the blame, it’s all because this Frozen Heart is insane!
【AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Ey hey~

By this time, Jing Yu had already recalled back to the fountain.  As soon as his health was mostly recovered, he hurriedly floated towards the top lane.

The cons to Frozen Heart were very evident: they were squishy and their 2nd ability was a suicide skill.  But they also had clear advantages: high damage and an ultimate with crowd control.

If it wasn’t for Frozen Heart’s ult that froze Chiron near the edge of the turret, True Arrow wouldn’t have been able to kill Chiron without taking turret damage.

The players on the battlefield, whether they were allies or enemies, all thought that Frozen Heart was too daring.  After all, with only a moment of difference, the entire situation would have been reversed.

However, to Jing Yu, all of this was within his calculations, without the slightest deviation.

As a cautious squishy jungler, he rarely fought head-on unless he was completely sure that he would win.  Before he made any moves, he always chose his target long in advance, and wouldn’t do anything that was unnecessary.
So, as long as he made a move, the whole team would definitely get kills!

After floating to top, Jing Yu first hid Frozen Heart in the brush, then opened the minimap to watch the top lane’s condition.

That XX had a bad temper, but his skills were pretty good, pressuring the enemy solo laner the entire game.
At the moment, the other side’s solo laner only had half a bar of health and was clearing creeps dejectedly under his tower.  And XX, taking advantage of his longer reach, kept using his 1st ability to harass and lick at the opponent’s health.

Noticing that Frozen Heart was nearby, XX sent out two “attack” pings in close succession.  Jing Yu pretended not to see them.

“What do you mean attack, did you already forget that I’m Frozen Heart?  The enemy has that much blood left.  If I attack him under their tower, wouldn’t I be looking for death?”  Jing Yu’s lips twitched.  He continued to squat in his brush, patiently waiting until the enemy solo laner cleared a wave of creeps and recalled home.  Then, Jing Yu rushed out to helped XX push the top outer turret.

【System】 Frozen Heart has destroyed an enemy turret!

After destroying the tower, Jing Yu immediately controlled Frozen Heart and slipped away, continuing to farm the jungle.
But XX obviously had a few issues with him.

【AllyXX (Lilith):  What are you playing at?  Why didn’t you attack?
【AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  I’m Frozen Heart.
     【AllyXX (Lilith):  ……
There was nothing he could refute.

【AllyGold Fish not Salted Fish (Frozen Heart):  Also, this is a tower game.

Wasn’t it over once the towers were destroyed?  As long as all the towers were destroyed, this game could be won without getting a single kill!

At this point, the bottom lane also successfully destroyed an enemy turret.  Only the mid lane was still in deadlock.

The enemy jungler, like Jing Yu, was partial to ganking mid, camping near the mid lane a few times already.  Every single time, Jing Yu had predicted it in advance and sent a ping to their mid, so that the enemy jungler had yet to succeed with a single gank.

And now, it was time to demonstrate to them the right way to gank mid!

“I’ll show you guys what real jungling is like!” Jing Yu said, confidently.  After spotting Burial Sword leading enemy creeps in bot, he dashed unhesitatingly towards mid.

He waited in the brush for a while, until the enemy mage used up their 1st and 2nd ability. Then, Jing Yu sent out an “attack” ping, before using Frozen Heart’s 2nd ability, Frozen Allure, to connect onto the enemy mage.

Almost at the exact moment Frozen Heart moved towards the enemy mage, the ally mage used his ult, a hurricane that hit the enemy mage head-on, while immediately following with his 2nd ability, a hard CC, making it so that the enemy couldn’t move an inch.
And then Jing Yu secured the kill with an auto.

Their cooperation was very in sync.  Jing Yu looked at their mage, impressed.
In truth, even if their mage didn’t cooperate with him, he was confident that he could still take the kill without any hitches.  After all, calculating his damage at this level, he could instakill a mage with half their health with only two abilities.

But now, he still had his 1st ability.  Since the cooldown on his ultimate was almost over, he could once again go around causing problems.

“Wow, this mage is really good.  Should I leave a spot for him on my friend’s list?” Jing Yu said as he continued to jungle.

【Acting as if the other person wants to add you……】
     【Hahaha, above is the truth.】
【Let’s not talk about your friends list, is your frequent teammates list[3] even full yet?】

It was true. When he first began playing 《Demon Lord》, Jing Yu would often reach out to his teammates with an olive branch.  But because he mained Frozen Heart, his teammates preferred to keep a respectful distance away from him.
Even now, the only ones on his friends list were a few members of the same guild, teaming up only to do daily quests and the like.

After gaining an advantage early game, there wasn’t much to be concerned about the rest of the round.  After all, the demons Jing Yu’s teammates chose all had very high damage, and the enemy tank could not endure at all.

Less than twenty minutes later, they aced the other team and defeated the Dark Dragon.
Before the Dark Dragon had even started advancing, the enemy team already surrendered.

The word victory appeared in large gold letters on the screen, and after it disappeared, Frozen Heart’s 3D special effects page was shown.
Twelve kills, zero deaths, and eight assists, the well-deserved MVP.

Jing Yu stretched, taking off his headphones to let his ears rest for a bit, before putting them back on again.  He looked at the comments on the other screen, “There’s too many people that flame Frozen Heart, why don’t I play a round using a different demon?  Or maybe I should play standard mode instead of ranking?”
He wasn’t used to the Bullet Comment Helper, so he always used two computers, one of which showed his livestream room.

     【Whatever makes you happy!】
【Standard mode! I want to watch Gold Fish-sama play Frozen Heart, but I don’t want to see Gold Fish-sama get flamed anymore, my heart hurts.】

“There’s griefers everywhere, even in standard mode.  But, it’s all good~” Jing Yu laughed a little, “My Frozen Heart is undefeatable!  Those who flame me can only prepare to be face-slapped!”

     【He’s swelling up[2].】
     【This flag[4]……】
     【Gold Fish-sama, you’re making me nervous.】

As these comments flashed by, Jing Yu clicked on Standard Match.
After reaching the demon selection interface, he once again instalocked Frozen Heart.
However, what he didn’t expect was – not long after he locked Frozen Heart, his four teammates instalocked…… Guren, Faar, Sonde, and Voïa.
–Four out of five demons from what players called the “newbie gift pack”.

Guren was the ground elemental sprite, Faar, the fire elemental sprite, Sonde, the thunder elemental sprite, and Voïa, the water elemental sprite.
The last was Wendy, the wind elemental sprite.

This was a pack of five elemental demons that every player received upon entering the game.  Basically, only new players who didn’t have any other demons would use them, well-deserving of their “newbie gift pack” title.

     “WTF?!”
This time, it was Jing Yu’s turn to flame his teammates.

【TeamGold Fish not Salted Fish:  Bots?!
     【Teamasdf: No.
     【Teamjkll: Real people.
     【Teamadddd: Lalala~
【Teamhhhh: Jungle, why don’t you change to the wind elemental?  Let’s have fun together!
【TeamGold Fish not Salted Fish:  ……

My Teammates Are All Crazy – Ch. 1

Jing Yu checked his streaming equipment one last time, and after making there were no problems, he started his stream the second the clock hit 6:00.

            【On the dot!】
            【On time, as always!】
            【Will we see Gold Fish[1]-sama’s face today~?】
    【Looks like we won’t.】

Countless similar barrage comments floated across another computer screen.

Jing Yu turned his head to look and couldn’t help but laugh softly.  “Good evening guys, what do you want to watch me play today?”

            【Demon Lord!】
            【Has to be Demon Lord!】
【Wanna see your Frozen Heart beat the enemy team into submission!】

Jing Yu shrugged, unsurprised by the comments.

As a game streamer who relied on his skills, the game he played the most in the last few months was a popular MOBA called 《Lord Devil》, translated as 《Demon Lord》[2] in Chinese.

In this game, he mainly played as the jungler, during which he mostly used the demon Frozen Heart.  There were even comments calling him the top Frozen Heart of the mainland server.

Technically, they’re not wrong.  Since, other than Jing Yu, there isn’t anyone else bold enough to use Frozen Heart on this server.

Jing Yu had logged in to the game long before the stream started.  From the list of demons, he found Frozen Heart, a deathly pale “young girl” floating in mid-air.  Why the quotation marks?  Because the description clearly stated that Frozen Heart had no gender.

However, their slim profile did indeed give those who glanced at them the impression of a soft and weak young girl.

Frozen Heart had a head of long, white hair, the same snowy colour as their dress that danced with the wind, under which a pair of slender legs peaked out.

Other than a pair of alluring purple eyes, the demon was a graceful white from head to toe, giving off an aura of iciness, as snowflakes drifted down around them.

For the best aesthetics, whether it was graphics quality or ability effects, Jing Yu had them all on the highest setting.

So, seeing Frozen Heart on his game interface, other than exclaiming that that 《Demon Lord》’s character designs were really incredible, the fans watching Jing Yu’s stream were also chilled by the gorgeously realistic special effects – it was almost as if they could feel the coldness emitting from Frozen Heart.

As 《Demon Lord》’s top demon when ranked by beauty, Frozen Heart’s appearance gained a lot of attention and was fawned over, and this was one of the reasons Jing Yu had first started playing them obsessively.

Of course, looking good was one matter, viability was another.

      Was Frozen Heart viable?
This was debatable.  Regardless, the number of people who used Frozen Heart on the mainland server were fewer than a few.

Jing Yu clicked on Ranked Matched, and successfully entered Ban&Pick mode.  After both sides banned two demons that were OP in the current meta, Jing Yu was luckily chosen to be first pick.

Without needing to think, he instalocked Frozen Heart.

And then the team chat exploded:
      【Team XX:  Frozen Heart?!
      【TeamXX:  Are you insane?!

Jing Yu, who had already expected this, shrugged his shoulders.  “Looks like it’s someone who doesn’t know me.”

After he said that, a storm of barrage comments immediately responded, some encouraging, others roasting him.

【Sitting down to watch the teammates get face-slapped!】
      【Gold Fish’s Frozen Heart is undefeatable!】
–And the like, were encouraging him.

【It’s normal not to know about you.  Don’t you have any f-ing self-awareness when it comes to your popularity?】
【Instalocking Frozen Heart in ranked, you deserve to be flamed.】
–And the like, were roasting him.

Whether it was encouragement or roasts, Jing Yu was already used to it all.

After all, this wasn’t the first time he’d used Frozen Heart to play ranked, nor was it the first time that he’d been scorned by his teammates. The same scene had repeated countless times.

      【It’s because your id doesn’t sound like a streamer’s.】
Seeing this comment out of the blue, Jing Yu paused for a second, reflexively glancing at his own game id: Gold Fish not Salted Fish[3].

“What are you talking about?” he defended, “It’s so memorable!”

But the comments aren’t letting him off.

      【TBH, it’s really plain.】
      【100% a regular player’s id~】
【If they don’t watch your stream, who TF would think that this id belonged to a streamer?】

Jing Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

      【You should change your id!】
      【change id +1】
      【change id +SSN】

Jing Yu didn’t really care about his id, so seeing his fans insisting, he carelessly asked, “Alright then, what should I change it to?”

      【JJ Stream[4] – Gold Fish】
      【JJ Gold Fish】
      【JJ-Gold Fish[5]

“Gold Fish[5]…… You guys, that’s enough!”  Jing Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, thinking that his cutiepies[6] were just too cute.  “What if I abbreviate it, how does GF sound?”

      【OKOK.】
      【Okway~】
【-Suddenly levels up from regular player to pro gamer-】
【Hahaha, yes!  GF sounds more like a professional gamer than a streamer!】

Jing Yu glanced at the game interface.  Both sides had already selected their demons and had entered the finalization phase.

His teammates’ demons were all commonly used ones.  The player who mocked Jing Yu chose Lilith, a tanky mage, to solo lane.

Their mid was Black Serpent, their ADC, True Arrow, and their support, Sherry.

Emmm…… Even though these demons were all commonly used, assembling them together……

The teammate with the id XX exploded again:
      【TeamXX:  Are you all insane?!
【TeamXX:  The jungler’s already a squishy that even a support could instakill, and you guys still chose this kind of

The message was sent unfinished, because the timer ended.

The graphics changed, entering the loading screen.

“We’re all so squishy~” Although Jing Yu was saying that, his tone was unsalvageably playful[7].  His voice already wasn’t deep enough, and once he becomes playful, he sounded very shou[8].

【Whenever there’s a hitch, he starts running his mouth.  I’m calling the police!】
      【Got goosebumps, calling the police!】
      【Call the police!  There’s a streamer being indecent[9] on live broadcast!】

Jing Yu pretended not to see these familiar comments, and playfully said to himself, “We’re done for, we’re done for, we’re going to lose this round~ The other team’s comp is so much more reasonable than ours, they can shove us back into our fountain and still pummel us!”

Those who didn’t know Jing Yu, even without listening to his words, would think his side was going to lose without question, from the team composition alone.  But Jing Yu’s true-love angels[6] were already used to such situations.

【Every time Gold Fish says that, the win’s set in stone.】
【Gold Fish takes one look at the other side and starts running his mouth.】
【It’s alright if you fool around while talking, just don’t fool around in the game.】

Jing Yu cheerfully read the comments for a bit.  Hearing the system announce the start of the battle, he immediately turned back to the game interface, taking control of Frozen Heart and floating towards the jungle.

Frozen Heart was an assassin-type jungler.  The common characteristic of this class is that they were glass cannons that had low HP.  Frozen Heart’s max health, especially, was low enough to make one’s hairs stand up.

What XX said earlier about how even a support could instakill this jungler wasn’t at all an exaggeration.  There had really been players who used Frozen Heart to attempt to gank the bottom lane, only to be killed by the enemy support.

This was why those who used Frozen Heart to rank up would be mocked.  Frozen Heart’s survivability was too poor and they were completely useless in team fights.  Furthermore, it was easy for the other side to – counter jungle!

Counter jungling is when the enemy jungler invades the home jungle, and when Frozen Heart is on the battlefield, this becomes extremely commonplace.

As Jing Yu jungled, he watched the minimap, observing the top, mid, and bottom lanes, while calculating in his heart – the time it’ll take for the other jungler to come to gank him.

Thinking that it was about time, he forked out his Smite, killing the jungle monster and restoring his health to above 50%, before hiding in a nearby brush.

As expected, moments later, the enemy jungler Burial Sword charged over with a 40-meter longsword.  Seeing that the largest monster was already dead, he immediately started hacking brazenly at the bushes.

A Frozen Heart with only their 1st ability that faced-off with a Burial Sword with his 1st ability head-on was just looking for death.  Nevertheless, Jing Yu loved to seek death.  “Guess whether I can solo him or not?”

He directed his question at his little angels[6], but he was completely focused on the game, and didn’t know how the comments responded.

But he didn’t care, because he was confident – he could kill him!

Jing Yu waited patiently in the brush until Smite only had a few seconds of cooldown left, until Burial Sword with his 40-m longsword closed in on him, until the perfect time to strike. Immediately wiping wiped away all traces of frivolousness from his face, he rushed at Burial Sword with Frozen Heart!

Frozen Heart’s 1st ability, Frozen Blade, did enough damage to slice a third of Burial Sword’s health bar right off, while raising Frozen Heart’s health with life steal.  The next second, Jing Yu’s Frozen Heart ran straight at Burial Sword, closely dodging his 1st ability, and before Burial Sword could turn around, he hit him with an auto attack.

Burial Sword swung around aggressively, hacking and slashing after Frozen Heart.  Jing Yu focused all of his attention, calmly positioning and dodging as much as he could, while counter-attacking whenever possible.

But even so, his health bar was still first to fall below one-third.

The title of #1 most squishy wasn’t just for show, and Frozen Heart held it with a clear conscience.

However, as Jing Yu watched the jungle monster that was getting closer and closer to him, the corners of his lips couldn’t help but turn upwards.  Just as he was left with only a 15-point sliver of health, the second before Burial Sword’s next auto attack would send him back to the fountain, Jing Yu used Smite on the nearby monster, bringing his health up above one-third with life steal. Then, he rushed at Burial Sword, using his 1st ability one more time, the stab bringing Burial Sword’s health down to virtually zero.  Before Burial Sword could counter with an ability, Jing Yu hit him with an auto attack.

【System】 Frozen Heart has slain an enemy!
【System】 The enemy Burial Sword has been defeated!

[1] Jing Yu’s name 荆宇 sounds really similar to goldfish in Chinese, 金鱼 (jīnyú), and that’s probably why he uses it for part of his game id.

[2] 恶魔领主;  I’m going to use “Demon Lord” when the author mentions the Chinese name and keep it as “Lord Devil” whenever she uses the English.

[3] 是金鱼不是咸鱼 (Is A Gold Fish Not A Salted Fish); his game id is a cute little joke about on his name.  To be a “salted fish” is to be someone without dreams or someone who doesn’t want to do anything.

[4] JJ Stream is the name of the streaming site Jing Yu has a contract with.  This is briefly mentioned in a bit more detail later on in the story.

[5] Italicized “Gold Fish” was already in English.

[6] 小可爱 (little cuties), 小天使 (little angels); this is how a lot of authors and streamers call their fans.

[7] 语气却浪得不行 (his tone was extremely 浪); 浪 = being unrestrained, indulgent, reckless

[8] I think everyone knows this but sounding shou basically means he’s sounds a bit like what you think of as a stereotypical gay bottom.

[9] 发骚; Google says it means being lecherous, etc., but I’m going to stick with “indecent”.
